Meet the Principal

It is my honor to serve the community of Kyrene de la Esperanza! I am originally from Northwest Indiana from an area called “The Region”, but have been living in Arizona since I came out for college in 1999, Go Devils! I started my career as a high school English and journalism teacher at Desert Mountain High School, where I was Department Chair, as well as sponsor of the Wolf’s Print student newspaper and DMTV. I moved into school leadership as an AP at Chaparral High School, before becoming Director of Instructional Technology and Director of Assessment for the Scottsdale Unified District.

In 2017, I came to Kyrene as the principal of Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School for 3 years, until the pandemic started. I then designed and opened Kyrene Digital Academy, Kyrene’s online K-8 school, which I lead for 4 years. Most recently I was the administrator for Kyrene Online Learning and the Kyrene Alternative to Suspension Program.

My core belief since I began teaching in 1999 has always been that learning and fun are not antonyms. It is my hope that in addition to teaching Safe, Honest, and Respectful Kids, that we are creating a learning environment that delights our students and inspires them to love learning. I am so excited to serve as principal of Kyrene de la Esperanza, and I look forward to working with you and your kids!
